Get to Know Carter Snelling, Investment Analyst

Meet Carter Snelling, Investment Analyst and new HLC Team Member!

Carter Snelling joined Holt Lunsford Commercial in 2023 and serves as an Investment Analyst for Holt Lunsford Commercial Investments (HLCI). Carter is responsible for underwriting and evaluating potential investments, supporting the team in the execution of transactions, and using data analysis to monitor industry trends.

Before joining HLC, Carter sold industrial equipment in Little Rock, Arkansas where he familiarized himself with the industry and developed skills in customer relations.

Carter spent his childhood in Boerne, Texas before moving to College Station to attend Texas A&M University. After meeting his wife, Landry, he graduated with a BBA in Finance from the Mays Business School.

What brought you to HLC?
After living in Arkansas, we wanted to be closer to family. We started looking into Dallas opportunities, reaching out to mutual connections. With my background in finance, I decided to get connected with the real estate world because real estate is a good bridge between finance and analytics, and people and relationships. My connection with HLC was through Mark De La Torre, with whom I saw an opportunity to learn from and receive guidance from someone who has a strong knowledge of the industry.

How do you hope to grow at HLC?
I want to grow in my ability to love others the way Christ did, and this job is a great way to do so. Also, I hope to grow my technical skills, learning as much as I can about finance, real estate, the market, and how these things relate to people.

What about your role at HLC most excites or interests you?
The amount of knowledge that there is to gain. It is exciting to learn about this field and how to use that knowledge to grow relationships.

Which HLC value resonates the most with you and why?
I would say love your neighbor as yourself. That is a value that extends so much further beyond work. In family, in church, and in whatever situation where there are people involved, this value plays out in every single way.

What three words would you use to describe the HLC culture?
Devotion, Trust, Integrity

If you could tell one person “thank you” for helping me become the person you are today, who would it be and why?
My dad. He modeled the things I really value in my life, namely in the way that he treats people. He demonstrated that so well in my own family, how he treated my mom, my siblings, and me, and how he treats strangers. He makes me want to follow in his footsteps.

What are three interesting things about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume?
I have a big family. Right now I have 12 in-laws. I have a golden retriever named Zuma. I left the United States for the first time one year ago.

How do you define success?
Living my life in a way that honors the Lord and having a family to do that with. I don’t see success as a monetary goal. If you look at the world around you, no amount of achievements will leave you satisfied.

How do you like to spend your free time?
Spending time with my wife outdoors, camping, hiking, and hunting.

If you were the CEO of a company name one thing you would make mandatory in the office and one thing you would ban?
I would have H-E-B Chocolate milk in every fridge and ban negative attitudes

Where is the furthest you’ve traveled?
Mexico

What would you invent if you could?
A toilet seat that functions like a trash can lid, with a foot pedal or automatically close function.

Favorite quote?
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me,” Galatians 2:20. It encompasses so much of what a Christian life means for us and how I try to live my life accordingly.

What can you teach me to do in five minutes?
How to sharpen a knife.

Favorite ice cream flavor?
Cookies n’ Cream but specifically Cookie Two Step by Bluebell, but regardless, it has to have hard shell chocolate on top.

What superpower would you like to have?
Read at an incredible speed and be able to retain all the information.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you?
My wife, a Bible, and a knife.

What’s your secret talent no one at work knows about?
I can hold my breath for three minutes.

What was the last gift you gave someone?
A pair of boots I gave my wife for Christmas.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
Peregrine Falcon

Which animal would make the best type of president if the animal kingdom ever rose up and took over?
Lion

If you had to choose, what would your last meal be? No limits.
A meal made by my dad. Steak, baked potatoes, Caesar salad, and chocolate milk from H-E-B.

Welcome to HLC, Carter; we are glad you are here!
