Get to Know Trey Goodspeed, Market Analyst

Meet Trey Goodspeed, Fort Worth Industrial Market Analyst and new HLC team member!

Trey Goodspeed joined Holt Lunsford Commercial in 2021 and serves as a Market Analyst in the Fort Worth Industrial Division. His responsibilities include gathering market intelligence, producing competitive market sets and weekly analysis reports, assisting brokers in lease negotiations, and marketing HLC properties.

Trey grew up in Dallas, Texas with his parents and two older brothers. He played baseball, basketball, football and golf growing up. Trey attended Coppell High and played football for his last 3 years before following in his brother’s footsteps and attending Abilene Christian University. At ACU, Trey had the opportunity to lead a ministry called World’s Backyard, as well as being Vice President for the Fraternity of Galaxy. Trey enjoyed the community ACU provided, along with the lifelong relationships he made while being there.

After graduation, Trey got married to his wife, Mollie, and moved to Fort Worth after they both landed jobs in the area. It has been a great place for them to start out, and they are excited to begin their new lives there.

What brought you to HLC?
After my Junior year of college, I interned at Northwestern Mutual because I wanted to be a financial planner. As an intern, I realized fairly quickly that financial planning was not what I was called to do, but I knew the Lord wanted me to use my knowledge of business to help others somehow. I knew Commercial Real Estate was a good career path, but I didn’t know much about the industry. I spoke with everyone I knew who had experience, or currently worked in Commercial Real Estate so I could learn as much as I could. My roommate Skyler Seidman eventually introduced me to Walker White to talk about HLC and what it looked like to work there. I loved how there was an emphasis on serving the client and doing what was best for them over anything else. Eventually, I was introduced to Matt Carthey who explained what the analyst role would look like, and I realized this was the perfect opportunity for me.

How do you hope to grow at HLC?
My goal is to grow professionally by learning the art of helping clients with their Real Estate needs in a professional manner. I also want to grow as a man of faith by allowing God to lead me where I need to go and to keep reminding myself that He will always provide for me and my family.

What about your role at HLC most excites or interests you?
I get to talk to other brokers a lot when doing any type of market research, and I love doing this because I get to have conversations with people who are doing what I will eventually be more heavily involved in. I learn a lot from picking peoples brain and how others in the industry run their Real Estate practice.

Which HLC value resonates the most with you and why?
“We serve.” This is what I feel is most important in all things we do, to always serve others. Trust is gained much quicker when that is at the center of what we are doing.

Who or what inspires you?
Probably my dad. I am just now realizing how hard he worked so we could live in a nice house and go to a good college. I want to do that for my kids as well one day.

What are three interesting things about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume?
I enjoy being around people more than anything, but every now and then I love to just sit on the couch and watch movies, play video games, and do absolutely nothing. I started a not-so-resume worthy podcast my freshman year of college that I really hope nobody ever finds. I can eat pretty much anything, but I hate chocolate.

How do you define success?
Money is nice, but I feel the truly successful people are the ones who are happy. If you have money but are miserable, that doesn’t seem very successful to me. I’m one of those guys who believes it is easier being happy when you have money, but it’s more about the center of what your intent is on everything.

How do you like to spend your free time?
I enjoy playing golf with my buddies. I’m a big golfer, I’m terrible, but I do enjoy the links. Also hanging out with my wife.

Everyone has a good app idea. What’s yours?
An app that can automatically send personalized Happy Birthday texts to everyone in your contacts. I’m terrible at remembering to do that.

Where is the furthest you’ve traveled?
Athens, Greece my sophomore year of college. One of the cheapest places I will probably ever visit. Could get a full meal at a nice restraint for $5.

What would you invent if you could?
A robot that cooks all your meals for you, it would save so much time. I enjoy cooking but it just takes way too long to make a good meal. It would also clean the dishes, I don’t like doing that either.

Favorite quote?
“Shake and Bake.” – Ricky Bobby, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Favorite ice cream flavor?
Vanilla, I’m a simple man. I don’t need all the bells and whistles, just want to get straight to the point.

What character would you be in a book, movie or TV show?
I would be The Rock in any of his movies because he is always doing something wild.

What superpower would you like to have?
I would want to have the control of time, investing in the stock market would be so easy.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you?
Chess Board, Rubik’s Cube, and my Xbox. I feel like that would keep me occupied for a while.

What’s your secret talent no one at work knows about?
I can play the piano. I’m not amazing but I do enjoy tickling the Ivory, as they say.

What’s the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?
Me and my wife have been binge watching Modern Family. It’s probably not very healthy but it’s so funny and I highly recommend for anyone who’s trying to waste tens of hours of time watching a great show.

What was the last gift you gave someone?
I gave a camera strap to my wife, Mollie. She’s a photographer, and I had given her a camera strap before we were engaged with her maiden name on it, so I gave her the exact same one that now says, “Mollie Goodspeed Photography”. She does weddings, proposals, and family portraits at a great price for anyone who’s wondering (Insta: @molliegoodspeedphoto).

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
Probably a monkey, I love monkeys and I could get away with anything. Monkeys can do whatever they want and no one’s going to stop them.

If you could steal credit for any great piece of art, song, film or book, which one would you claim?
Spaceballs, the movie. Classic comedy.

If you could redesign the food pyramid without any dire health consequences, how would it look?
Vegetables at the top, obviously. Next, sweets. I’m not a big sweets guy but I do like eating my sweets. After that probably would be carbs, any type of bread or pasta. Next, pizza. And then red meat at the bottom.

Last meal?
Fried catfish, baked mac ‘n’ cheese, jalapeno poppers, and pecan pie for dessert.

Welcome to HLC Trey, we are glad you are here!
