HLC is happy to introduce Monty Hobbs, Controller and new addition to HLC!
Monty grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and currently lives in Mansfield with his wife Christiane and their two children, son Micah and daughter Johanna.
What brought you to HLC?
The values system that HLC has was a big attraction for me. And it’s not just lip service – I initially read about the values on the website, I saw them posted on the office walls when I interviewed, they were discussed during my interview, and the employees at HLC do their best to live out the values each and every day.
Which HLC value resonates the most with you and why?
The Golden Rule – treating people with respect. In the past, I have worked with some that don’t treat people with a basic level of courtesy, and I appreciate being part of a company that does!
What about your role at HLC most excites or interests you?
The opportunity to be in a spot where I can see the whole company and impact some of the decisions that are made. For example, during the budget planning process I am looking forward to help chart the course for the company in a strategic way that looks further down the road than just the upcoming year.
What three words would you use to describe the HLC culture?
Results-oriented. Respectful. Relaxed, in that there is minimal drama!
What are three interesting things about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume?
I’m an Eagle Scout. I enjoy deer hunting. I can bake a decent pie – before I was married, I had to bring pecan and pumpkin pies to the family Thanksgiving dinner, and I made them from scratch.
How do you define success?
At the end of the day, it’s about family, friends and loved ones – being a good husband and a good father.
What could you teach me to do in the next 5 minutes?
How to tie a square knot.
What super power would you like to have?
The ability to see the future.
If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be and why?
An eagle, because it has the freedom of flight.
What is your secret talent that no one knows about?
I enjoy singing – I have sung in church choirs, and I have happy family memories of duets at home with my sister playing the piano and me singing.
If you could redesign the food pyramid without any dire health consequences, how would it look?
First, chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes smothered in cream gravy. Second, meat loaf. Third, banana pudding.
Welcome to the HLC team Monty, we are glad you are here!
