Get to know John Dickenson, Dallas Office Managing Principal and new addition to HLC!
John grew up in Dallas, Texas where he attended Highland Park High School and played lacrosse and football. (John played football with the now-famous Matthew Stafford, quarterback for the Detroit Lions!) He then decided to head to the mountains for college and attended the University of Denver where he was a four-year letterman and full scholarship athlete for the Denver Pioneers Lacrosse team, while also receiving a BBA in Real Estate.
Tell me about your prior CRE experience.
Prior to joining HLC, I was a Vice President at Peloton Commercial Real Estate in Dallas where I leased and marketed office space in the DFW market.
What brought you to HLC?
I was attracted to HLC because I wanted to be part of a company that offered a lot of growth potential both for the company and for me personally. I got to know Holden Lunsford over the last several years and through him learned about HLC’s culture, values and people.
What about your role at HLC most excites or interests you?
It’s encouraging to be part of a young team that is excited and passionate about what they do! I like having the opportunity to grow a platform that has a lot of momentum and see other team members succeed in the process.
What three words would you use to describe the HLC culture?
Servant-minded, driven, team-oriented.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Anything sports related (including ping pong!), golf with friends and traveling. My favorite destination is Europe, I recently backpacked solo through Switzerland, it was an amazing trip!
If you could tell one person “thank you” for helping you become the person you are today, who would it be and why?
My dad. He is a self-made man who doesn’t cut corners and always does things the right way. He taught me how to lead by example, to always be humble, and to live with integrity. I still look up to him today.
What are three interesting things about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume?
I have an identical twin brother named Charley. I am a sports fanatic. I’m teaching myself to paint, abstract style, acrylic and oil.
What could you teach me to do in the next 5 minutes?
How to cradle a lacrosse stick.
What super power would you like to have?
The power to fly.
If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
A bald eagle. Not only are they just one of the coolest birds ever and the national bird of the best country in the world, they have no fear.
What was the last gift you gave someone?
I gave one of my paintings to my mom, she wanted something that “came from the heart.”
If you could redesign the food pyramid without any dire health consequences, how would it look?
At the top, desserts! I have a sweet tooth. Then steak and bread.
