Get to Know – Aaron Draper, Market Analyst

Meet Aaron Draper, Dallas Office Market Analyst and new HLC team member!

Aaron grew up in Plano, Texas with his parents and older brother. He attended Plano West and then went on to college at Abilene Christian University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and Accounting. While at Abilene Christian, Aaron was a four-year letterman on the university’s baseball team, and a member of the Student Leadership Council.

After graduation, Aaron worked for J.P. Morgan in Private Banking, where his team supported high net worth individuals and families across the spectrum of financial services including asset management, alternative investments, lending solutions, wealth strategy, and banking services.

Aaron serves as a Market Analyst in the Dallas Office Division for HLC. His responsibilities include gathering market intelligence, producing competitive market sets, producing weekly analysis reports, assisting brokers in lease negotiations and marketing HLC properties. Aaron is dedicated to supporting the leasing transactions team on their approximately 3.5 million square foot portfolio of office assets; researching specified buildings and assisting each market director with their individual marketing duties.

What brought you to HLC?
My time at J.P. Morgan was a good experience and I learned a lot but it was not the field that I wanted to continue in. I wanted to shift my career into real estate so I started networking. During that process, I met Holden Lunsford which led to me meeting and talking with more people at HLC and learning more about the company and the industry. It just felt like it was the right fit for me.

How do you hope to grow at HLC?
Working for a values-based company helps you keep things in perspective, and I hope to grow personally, as well as professionally, at HLC. Good values and good people equals good influence!

Which HLC value resonates the most with you and why?
We Serve. We are in a service-based business, and when we put our customers first the results are happy clients and partners.

What about your role at HLC most excites or interests you?
I really like that HLC has a great team environment, but it’s exciting that I’m also encouraged to be entrepreneurial.

What are three interesting things about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume?
I can play the piano. I’ve had two wrist surgeries, and I’m missing two bones in my hand. I love to cook, specifically anything on the grill, and I want to learn how to smoke brisket, ribs, etc.

How do you like to spend your free time?
With family and friends, golfing, hunting – I can also be a homebody, happy to watch Netflix and cook with my wife, Alex.

If you were the CEO of a company name one thing you would make mandatory in the office and one thing you would ban.
Mandatory – taking a break for lunch. Ban – flip flops.

Everyone has a good app idea. What’s yours?
I would create a gift-giving help app. It would listen to conversations that you have with people and specifically make notes when someone says, “I really want …” Then you would reference the app when the next gift-giving occasion arose.

What would your pet say about you if we asked for a reference?
Saban, my black lab, would probably say, “For the most part, Aaron does a pretty good job but doesn’t let me chase squirrels as much as I would like to.”

What super power would you like to have?
Flying – I would love to be able to avoid traffic.

What’s the last thing you watched on TV?
Empire. It’s about a family that runs a huge music conglomerate, and I’ve been binge-watching it with my wife.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
A snow leopard. They have all the good characteristics of a big cat – they are an apex predator, they don’t have to worry about being eaten, etc. – plus they live in the mountains and get to enjoy a great view every day!

Last meal?
Steak, mashed potatoes, and gumbo.

Welcome to HLC Aaron, we are glad you are here!
